Champions League Recap

So, here are the results for a rather interesting Championship League round:
Real Madrid 4-0 Tottenham
Adebayor scored two much needed goals, one from a great cross from Mesut Ozil. Two more goals followed, one from DiMaria and a final, emphatic goal from Ronaldo.

Schalke 5-2 Inter Milan
What a game! The scoring frenzy started with an amazing 55yard punt from Inter Milan's  Stankovich  that magically floated into an empty Schalke net. Schalke then equalized from a corner kick, tying the game at 1-1. Milito then scored for Inter, bringing the game to 2-1. But Schalke was quick to respond, with a goal from Edu. Both teams went into half-time with 2 goals apiece, waiting to see what would happen next. Raul managed to give Schalke the lead with a smooth goal that raised the game to 3-2. An unfortunate own goal by Inter brought the score up to 4-2, and finally, after a red card for inter, Schalke was able to get 5 after a great goal by Edu.

Real Madrid vs. Tottenham/ Inter Milan vs. Schalke

Unfortunately, I cannot physically watch this much-anticipated match, as only a select number of channels actually show it. Sky tv is one, and foxtv.com is another, but both require additional costs :(
As of halftime, it is Real Madrid 1-0 Tottenham. Adebayor has finally scored a much needed goal, probably exhibiting a sigh of relief as he did so! The question is, can Madrid hold on to their lead?

On the other hand, it is a quite amazing 2-2 draw between Inter Milan and Schalke, which, if Madrid and Schalke win, could lead to a reuniting of Raul with his former club. Wouldn't that be interesting! I personally am a huge fan of Raul, as he not only is a great footballer, but he seems to have a sense of integrity and class that many players today lack.

Inter vs AC Milan

So, it turns out AC Milan beat Inter, a solid 3-0, which has moved the team up in points in the Italian Serie A table. They currently reside in "first" with Napoli hot on their trail . Alexandre Pato scored the first two goals, and the young Argentinean seems hot at the moment. He will definitely develop more over the coming years.

Barca update

Well, it's official. Barca has beaten Villareal, 1-0, thus putting themselves 8 points ahead of flailing Real Madrid. It will be interesting to see what the two team's imminent clash will produce... and if there is still hope for Real Madrid to win the league title. Tune in on April 16th to ESPN3 to watch El Clasico!

Real Madrid Loss

Hey guys, sorry for the freak-out I had earlier... I just couldn't believe Real Madrid lost to Sporting! It was a painful game to watch and Madrid looked, quite frankly, extremely lethargic. Some bursts of energy came from two clean crosses from Mesut Ozil to Adebayor, as well as a very close shot by Sami Khedira, but they failed to produce. The shock of the late Sporting goal seemed to wake Madrid up from its lazy slumber, but it was too little too late. Losing their first home match this season will most likely prove to be a terrible blow to the Madrid team's self-confidence, but many players have reiterated that they have not lost all hope. Esteban Granero stated, " The league isn't over until there is no mathematical chance to win. Sporting prepared well for the game and our performance was under par. We must now play an important game on Tuesday and we have to concentrate on it. Our goal is to win."
It is a shame for a team that has come so far, with the likes of Benzema and Ozil really coming through and maturing. Madrid can only hope that Barca will somehow slip up against 4th place Villareal, ensuring a somewhat hopeful 5 point difference between the two teams. A bleary-eyed  Iker Casillas summed up today's events quite well:
"We gave away the first half, we didn't do anything.
It is a tough result to digest, (but) we have to pick ourselves up."
